Mission and Core Values

The mission of Evergreen Outdoor Education is to equip people of all ages and abilities with hands-on outdoor leadership skills that build confidence, spark curiosity, and strengthen community.

That work is guided by values of community, compassion, stewardship, responsibility, accessibility, and leadership. These values shape both the learning experience and the relationships built through each program.

About Us

Evergreen Outdoor Education was founded on the idea that everyone should have the chance to experience the Maine woods in ways that feel safe, supportive, and genuinely transformative. The organization works to reduce the physical, developmental, and financial barriers that can keep people with disabilities, special needs, or limited outdoor experience from fully participating in nature-based learning.

Programs center on youth leadership development, adult outdoor leadership, and team-building. Training areas include Red Cross safety and preparedness skills, environmental stewardship rooted in Maine’s ecosystems, leadership workshops such as Junior Maine Guide preparation, and customized outdoor experiences designed around the needs of each group.

Why Evergreen?

Evergreen emphasizes accessibility, personalized instruction, and low instructor-to-participant ratios so each learner has room to succeed. Programs are designed to be practical and adaptable, with individualized support that helps participants build confidence and apply what they learn beyond a single outing.

The long-term vision is to expand the reach of these programs, strengthen community partnerships, and create more opportunities for people to develop meaningful outdoor skills in supportive settings.
